The winter season will be the hardest challange you will face in your car, cold temperatures and icy roads can be a scary experience. In this article we will tell you how you can prepare yourself for most circumstances you face during winter.
Make sure you are prepared
Being prepared is one of the biggest factors when it comes to tackling the winter season. Making sure you have winter tyres installed on your car, making sure the tyre pressure on all four of your tyres is correct. These are some of the most important aspects of driving during winter, your tyres play a huge part in keeping you safe on the snowy/icy roads.
Not clearing your car off snow and ice!
Making sure your car is clean of any ice or snow is very important, the winter season brings the visibility down naturally, fog and rain are some of the common obsructions you will face during winter. You need to make sure to clear any snow or ice that is on your car, your mirrors and windows. Visibility is very important during this time of year where your reaction time has a huge impact.
Driving too fast and not being careful
The winter season already has a huge impact on all of the drivers, slowing the flow of traffic, making it much harder to manouver and overall causing much more havoc on the roads, due to this many people will be running late to anywhere they are going, meaning more people will be rushing because they have not planned their journey ahead or didn't give themselves enough time!
This means you need to be more careful and not drive as fast, if everyone slowed down, planned their journey's and was much more careful during winter season we could avoid many accidents or unpleasant incidents!
Tailgating...
You should always keep a safe distance away from the car infront of you, but during the winter season this issue is amplified, we all should know that ice and snow increases your stopping distance, tailgating is dangerous enough when done during dry conditions, during the winter season you will most likely not stop in time and cause an accident...
Panicking when you skid
Skidding is one of the scariest experiences whilst driving in winter, there aren't many ways of avoiding skidding, one and possibly the most important tips when it comes to controlling your car and making sure you come out of the skid is not to panick and make any sudden movements (It will only make it worse!).
To control it, take your feet off the pedals, then quickly turn the steering wheel in the direction you want to go.
