The winter season can get quite challenging for you and your car, making sure your car preforms as well as it can do is very important during tough winter conditions with icy or snowy roads. In this article we will tell you what you can do to keep your car preforming very well and getting through the winter!
Keep Track Of Your Tyre Pressure
Tyre pressure can very easily drop with the air pressure, driving with low tyre pressure will cause premature tyre wear and thread seperation meaning you will have to invest in new tyres sooner than expected!
Keeping track of your tyre pressure and keeping it at the correct level will ensure that your tyres are not getting damaged and you have full control that your tyres can provide.
Check and Maintain Your Battery
Checking and making sure your car battery is maintained well is very important, we have posted an article on how to maintain your battery properly and how to make sure it won't die on you during winter.
Making sure you are taking care of your car battery and changing it whenever you think it is struggling is very important, do your checks, invest in a battery charger and maintainer in case your battery does die!
Check and Replace Your Bulbs
During winter you will be driving in the dark much more than you would normally due to the sun setting sooner. Make sure you check your bulbs and replace them if needed. Visibility is very important in winter time, foggy weather and overall visibility is much lower than during other periods of the year.
To make sure your bulbs are working properly and illuminating as they should be, turn your car on preferably in the dark, turn the healights on and walk around the car making sure they are bright all around. To check the back lights have someone look if they illuminate and if they work as intended when you break, if you don't have anyone that could check for you park next to a wall or a car and look for reflections to see if they work.
Invest In Winter Tyres
Investing in winter tyres is also neccesary to make sure you have the most amount of control over your vechicle, normal tyres don't have the same traction and are not designed to be driven on ice or snow, whereas winter tyres will help you maximise control over your vechicle.
Flush and Fill The Coolant
Coolant, also known as anti-freeze is a crucial component for your car during winter, it stops your engine from freezing in cold temperatures. Before winter arrives make sure your car is not low on coolant or antifreeze. Also make sure that there are no leaks in your engine that could drain out the antifreeze.
Top Up Your Petrol
Make sure you always have more than a quarter of the fuel tank filled up during winter, cold temperatures cause your car to work much harder, using more fuel than normal, always having more than quarter of the tank almost ensures you won't run out unexpectedly.
